Licensure Resources

All 50 states and the District of Columbia require landscape architects to be licensed to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Licensure is administered by state licensing boards and the national Landscape Architect Registration Exam (L.A.R.E.) is administered by the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB).

ASLA is committed to helping you succeed in the landscape architect licensure exams! We offer essential resources and expert guidance to make your L.A.R.E. preparation more effective and affordable.

Other Resources

  • The L.A.R.E. is offered in April, August, and December. Find out more information about the next offering on the CLARB website
  • Consulting CLARB’s licensure requirements map and their exam eligibility map is also advisable.
  • If you have uncertainty involving your particular education and experience we highly recommend contacting the licensure board in the jurisdiction where you wish to become licensed.
  • A recent study by the Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing found that licensure helps level the playing field by removing subjectivity and setting clear, objective levels of qualification.
