CBAC: Subcommittee Initiatives (2024-2025)

Carbon Drawdown Subcommittee

  • Equip industry partners for alignment with Climate Action Plan decarbonization goals. Scale-up use of robust environmental product data and collaboration with product manufacturers.
  • Educate ASLA members on renewable energy.
  • Update and add sections to Decarbonizing Specifications: A Guide for Landscape Architects, Specifiers, and Industry Partners  
  • Advocate for Horticultural Life Cycle Assessment / Environmental Product Declaration (LCA/EPD) reporting standards for the nursery trade and an associated product category rule
  • Finalize recommended carbon workflow and standardized reporting
  • Investigate biodiversity and carbon reporting requirements for ASLA Awards submissions

Biodiversity Subcommittee 

  • Develop a biodiversity action resource for ASLA members
  • Process 2024 biodiversity survey results
  • Curate a biodiversity presence at the ASLA Conference
  • Support ASLA’s webinar series by developing biodiversity sessions
  • Advise on program and communication strategies for the UN Convention on Biological Diversity 
  • Advance the global movement to protect at least 30 percent of terrestrial, coastal, and ocean ecosystems by 2030 (30x30).
  • Coordinate involvement of ASLA members in IUCN expert commissions
  • Communicate the importance of taking action on biodiversity to the public

Leadership & Communications Subcommittee 

  • Achieve 38 ASLA Chapter Chairs / Committees by 2025
  • Achieve 100 percent Chapter representation in the ASLA Climate Action Network (CAN) by 2025
  • Update CAN resources
  • Advance academic collaboration within the CAN  
  • Advise on development of climate and biodiversity sections of new ASLA.org
  • Advise on ASLA climate and biodiversity communications strategies
  • Identify priority global partner organizations
  • Expand collaboration with the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA)

Climate Agency & Community Resilience Subcommittee

  • Build on initial strategy and plan for ASLA collaboration with Indigenous landscape architects on climate action, equity, and justice. Identify partnership opportunities and build relationships with Native members and organizations.
  • Develop summary of 2024 survey results
  • Organize and release case studies collected through the survey
  • Develop 101 document for ASLA members on climate equity and justice principles and best practices from existing publications
