WLAM
World Landscape Architecture Month 2021
What is World Landscape Architecture Month
April is World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM). Established by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), WLAM is a month-long international celebration of landscape architecture and designed public and private spaces. People and communities around the world have deep, long-standing personal connections to the spaces landscape architects create – they’re just not aware of it. During WLAM, ASLA and landscape architects around the world aim to demonstrate that connection by highlighting landscape architect-designed spaces.
How Does ASLA Celebrate WLAM
ASLA’s core vision statement is “healthy, beautiful, and resilient places for all.” This April during World Landscape Architecture Month, we will show how landscape architecture projects embody that vision in all communities – communities of all colors, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ability levels. We want to highlight how the spaces landscape architects create promote and facilitate people growing together with each other & with nature.
This year’s theme will be “Growing Together.”
All month, the American Society of Landscape Architects, our chapters in states and schools across the country, and our members around the world will showcase all the ways in which communities grow together in the spaces landscape architects create.
We'll highlight landscape architecture projects and spaces that form the fabric of the communities they serve. Our social media feeds on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn will showcase notable projects, practitioners, and progress in the field using the hashtags #WLAM2021 and #GrowingTogether. Student and Professional chapters will take over our Instagram to show their great work.
Here are a few ways you can participate:
Mapping Projects That Help Communities Grow Together ▽
ASLA is compiling a list of landscape architecture projects in communities around the world. From parks to public plazas, complete streets to community gardens, landscape architects play a critical role in shaping the world around us all.

Growing the Future Together Student Member Contest ▽
As landscape architecture students, you aren't only the future of the profession - you will play a significant role in designing the future of the planet.
As part of WLAM2021, ASLA is asking landscape architecture students to show all the new, innovative, creative ways in which they are working to design spaces and projects, especially those in underserved communities, that promote growing together.
Post your projects, with short community impact statements, on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook with the hashtags #GrowingtheFuture & #WLAM2021. Each post will count as one entry.
At the end of the month, two lucky winners will win a trip to the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture in Nashville, Tennessee this November.
