Rebecca Wahlstrom, ASLA

Rebecca Wahlstrom, ASLA, a devoted fan of food, jumped at this opportunity to explore the different ways food can be grown sustainably and dispersed more equitably. A graduate of the University of Washington with a bachelor of landscape architecture degree, Rebecca has practiced landscape architecture for more than 16 years, working with planning, architecture, and civil engineering firms around the Pacific Northwest. This variety has afforded Rebecca a comprehensive view of the world around her, specifically on how systems fit together.

Striving to knit people and nature together in a way that is mutually beneficial is a difficult balancing act, but it is one Rebecca feels is essential to the health and well being of both humans and the land. The more people are connected in a meaningful way to where they live, the more they will take care of their environment. In her projects, Rebecca aims to have people see their surroundings in a new way—a familiar view with a new twist. The world is a big and exciting place, the last thing people need is to see the same landscape from region to region.

Rebecca currently serves as the Public Awareness Representative for the Oregon Chapter of ASLA and is the editor of the Oregon Chapter’s e-publication, LANDbytes. She works with ASLA to promote the profession of landscape architecture to other allied professions and the public. In 2012, she received the ASLA Oregon Chapter Service Award for her writing and volunteering work. When Rebecca is not out sampling the fabulous food of Portland, Oregon, she is a landscape architect / planner with Olson Engineering, Inc.
