ASLA's New Climate Action and Biodiversity Plan

We need your help. The world is at a tipping point. Climate change and biodiversity loss are no longer distant threats—they are here, reshaping our landscapes, cities, and communities. But while the challenges are immense, we have the solutions. And landscape architects are uniquely positioned to lead the way.

To advance these solutions, ASLA is developing a new Climate and Biodiversity Action Plan for 2026-2030. It is an ambitious roadmap designed to transform the field of landscape architecture by 2040.

Building on the foundation of the ASLA Climate Action Plan released in 2022, the new plan expands its focus, treating the climate and biodiversity crises as equal priorities.

This effort is led by a dedicated 5-member Task Force led by Meg Calkins, FASLA, NC State University, and a 34-member Advisory Group, bringing together top experts in biodiversity, climate science, equity, and policy. Their work will create new goals and actions for ASLA and our community for 2026-2030.

“Landscape architects know that nature-based solutions can help address both the climate and biodiversity crises while also providing multiple economic, environmental, social, and health benefits. This incredible Task Force and Advisory Group, made up of biodiversity, climate, equity, and advocacy leaders, will show us the way and guide our collective action over the next five years,” said ASLA President Kona Gray, FASLA.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your support to make this plan a reality.

    Your contribution will directly support:
    • New plan design and development – ensuring we have an effective and accessible roadmap for the next five years
    • Workshops and educational tracks at the ASLA Conference to equip landscape architects with the tools to act
    • Interactive displays and resources to engage the profession and the public
    • A positive climate contribution program for the conference, setting an example for sustainable events

The new plan will be unveiled at the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture in New Orleans, October 10–13, 2025. But the work starts now.

Your donation fuels this critical initiative, helping ASLA drive real impact. Support the Climate and Biodiversity Action Plan today.
