Who is eligible to be an ASLA officer?
- Any Full Member in good standing is eligible to be nominated and serve as a Vice President of ASLA.
- Any Full Member who has served as a Vice President or Trustee of the Society is eligible to be nominated and serve as President of ASLA.
How does someone become an ASLA officer?
- Each June, ASLA issues a call for potential officer candidates. Typically, positions for two Vice Presidents and one President-Elect are open.
- Any member may suggest a Full Member to serve in the open positions, and members may nominate themselves or others.
- Once the call closes, ASLA contacts all suggested candidates to confirm their interest. Interested individuals are invited to submit materials outlining their qualifications and interest, which are then reviewed by the Nominating Committee.
- The Nominating Committee, composed of Trustees, Chapter Presidents, and Fellows, and Presidents meets prior to the annual conference to develop a slate of two candidates for each office.
- In its deliberations, the Nominating Committee upholds the Society's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring opportunities for all. Additionally, the committee strives to achieve a balanced representation of private practitioners, educators, and public employees to reflect the diverse needs and composition of ASLA’s membership.
