The Professional Practice Networks in D.C.: Thank You to Our PPN Leaders

The Historic Preservation PPN’s gathering in the PPN Forum featured a panel conversation with students from the University of Arkansas, University of Virginia, University of Georgia, and University of Maryland about their experiences working on Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) projects, moderated by Gregory W. De Vries, ASLA, PLA. / image: Alexandra Hay

Volunteer support is one of the pillars of ASLA's culture of collaboration, inclusion, and member focus, and it was on full display throughout the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture last week, from the many bright-eyed student volunteers to the Outstanding Service Award winners to all those helping out in the First-Time Attendee Lounge, at the Emerging Professional Zone's Ask Me Anything sessions, or doing portfolio reviews.

16 of ASLA’s Professional Practice Networks (PPNs) organized 18 events during the conference, taking place in the EXPO or in the PPN Forum, and featuring formats from presentations to a speed charette to lightning talks to breakout groups. We would like to thank everyone who attended, and an especially big thank you to all the PPN leaders who took part as meeting planners, speakers, and facilitators in ASLA 2024's PPN events. Thank you!

For conference highlights from the PPNs, see The Field.

You may have noticed that not all 20 Professional Practice Networks were represented on the conference schedule this year—one way to remedy this for future conferences is by volunteering as a PPN leader. Having more members step up to the leadership level helps to ensure that the PPNs have a presence at the conference and that each PPN is active throughout the year, with regular blog posts for The Field, webinars and other virtual events, conversations on LinkedIn, and opportunities for members to engage.

All ASLA members receive one PPN membership for free—you can check which one you’re in by logging in to asla.org and going to the “Activities” tab. Need to make a change, or add a PPN? Contact ASLA’s Member Services team at membership@asla.org

Any member of a PPN may volunteer to join their PPN’s leadership team at any time—all it takes is completing this short form

Thank you again to ASLA’s dedicated PPN leaders, and we look forward to keeping the PPN engagement going all year long until we meet again this time next fall in New Orleans!
