Greening the Grounds at Jane + Finch: A Conceptual Master Plan Competition to Revitalize the San Romanoway Affordable Housing Complex
The Greening the Grounds @ Jane + Finch project aims to revitalize through sustainable design, construction, and maintenance the grounds of the three residential towers at the heart of Jane and Finch, a priority neighborhood in Toronto. To this end, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (“TRCA”) is seeking proposals for a visionary master plan with some additional conceptual designs for designated components of the project.
The landscape improvements are part of a more comprehensive project for this property, which addresses food security, employment, water conservation, stormwater management, beautification and tree, and shrub and flower planting, while giving special attention to community cohesion and cultural pride. This competition is a magnificent chance to be part of a high profile pilot project that could serve as an urban renewal precedent for the hundreds of apartment complexes built in the Toronto Region in the 1960s and 1970s. It will showcase great opportunities to transform underutilized, private open spaces into sustainable parks for the enjoyment of nature, the promotion of social development, and the facilitation of community building.
Submissions are due June 30. Visit the website.
