Boston Draws Record for 2013 Annual Meeting and EXPO Kickoff

Conservative estimates predict more than 6,000 landscape architecture professionals and students will participate in the meeting, but that figure could be far higher if volunteer enthusiasm is any indication. The previous five kickoff meetings have averaged around 100 volunteers, so the number of New England members interested in assisting with the meeting far exceeds any on record.

ASLA President Tom Tavella, FASLA, welcomed the group warmly and provided an overview of how the meeting revenue provides more than one-third of ASLA’s annual budget revenue, supporting government affairs advocacy, public relations outreach, and other important ASLA programs.

Tavella introduced the two host chapter co-chairs, Michele Folts, ASLA, and Scott Doty, ASLA, who will lead local efforts to produce field sessions, organize the ASLA/ACE Mentor Program Legacy Project, and design and staff the host chapter booth, among many other responsibilities.

“For those of us from New England, it will be a point of pride to host the largest and best meeting in ASLA history,” said Tavella, who is a native of Connecticut. “It provides us with an opportunity to show off our incredible landscape legacy to professional colleagues from across the country and all over the world.”

All professional volunteer efforts will be coordinated through the BSLA. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact
