Complex analysis, comprehensive study... goals, objectives,
and hypothesis are clearly stated... an interesting, logical study
of an issue that is still often debated ... a great project that
deals with a subject on the mind of many practicing landscape
architects... results are informative...

This study addresses how designers and non-designers perceive
landscape elements in digitally presented designs from traditionally
presented designs. The research focuses specifically on the use
of the traditional methods of planning and prospective drawing,
and the digital methods of 3D modeling and real-time simulation.
It combines quantitative and qualitative research methods, designed
to understand and organize personal perceptions of design elements.
The study is centered on the implementation of a survey to university
students – half with design experience and half without –
that asks them to provide feedback on a site presented through the
two different media types. The results demonstrate several interesting
trends. The findings add to the knowledge base of the relationship
between human perception and computer design, and underscore the
importance of understanding the potential for different types of
media in design presentation.
