Jeff Schnabel, ASLA, is an associate professor in the School of Architecture at Portland State University, where he manages the Shattuck Hall Ecological Learning Plaza. He is focused on vertical growing systems.
Jeff is also engaged in the research and design of the public realm at night. Working with his students, he introduces temporary light installations throughout the city.
During the summer he and his colleague Professor Rudy Barton take students to Spain to compare and contrast successful public space making.
He is on the board of the Willamette Light Brigade—a non-profit organization charged with lighting Portland’s bridges—and the Lawrence Halprin Foundation.
Jeff is also a passionate artist who is combining his interest in light with encaustics or bees wax. Jeff’s work is supported by Metro, Urban Lab: PDX, and the Institute for Sustainable Solutions (ISS).
