Carson Beach
After many decades of prohibitions on swimming due to massive pollution in the harbor, today’s beach is well utilized. A Polar Bear Plunge has been held here each year in January since 1904 -- even before the major harbor cleanup.

The L Street Bathhouse
The quarter-mile long L Street Bathhouse, completed in 1931, reflected the city’s commitment at that time to expanding gymnasia and outdoor recreation facilities. Today the site is known as the Curley Community Center. The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library can be seen across the bay, on Columbia Point.
