RFQ: Design a New Gateway to the Presidio

Date: 3/20/2014 - 4/9/2014

Type: RFPs / RFQs

Location(s): California

Description:

An unprecedented opportunity exists to create a new gateway to the visitor experience at the Presidio of San Francisco, a new kind of national park site located at the center of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of the largest urban national parks in the world.

The Presidio Trust, working with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the National Park Service, invites firms to assemble multi-disciplinary teams and submit qualifications for conceptual design and programming for an extraordinary site connecting the Main Post – the traditional heart of the Presidio – to Crissy Field at the Presidio’s northern waterfront.

This area has the potential to become one of the most iconic destinations in the country, attracting a broad cross-section of local, national, and international visitors.

The 75-year-old freeway leading to the Golden Gate Bridge has been demolished and is being replaced by a new at-grade tunnel-covered roadway that will result in acres of new parkland atop a dramatic bluff with panoramic Golden Gate views.

The Presidio Trust will select up to five multi-disciplinary teams to participate in a two month design process that will culminate with a presentation to the public and community outreach. Each selected team will be awarded a $25,000 stipend to develop its proposal. We seek a cross-disciplinary approach to creating a signature destination and aspire to welcome diverse audiences.
