Letter from the ChairTime is flying by for all of us! We had a good turnout at the annual meeting WILA PPN session in San Diego. We also have the results of an online survey to our members and understand that there is a desire for this PPN to serve as a source for stories of women in the profession, as well as a mentoring resource for members. As we move through 2012, our Officers Group has been actively working to develop an editorial calendar for the newsletter that will address that desire. In addition, the newsletter is a source of links to conferences, books and other resources for everyone

What Are You Doing for Landscape Architecture Month? (And for Olmsted’s Birthday (April 26))?The month of April is National Landscape Architecture Month (NLAM). This year’s focus for NLAM is Public Health & Active Living. During April, landscape architects across the country will educate the public about how the profession is well-poised to address these issues. There will be public events showcasing just what can be done, including hands-on work with the public, speaking engagements, and design charrettes. On April 26, 2012 (Olmsted’s Birthday), landscape architects across the country will focus even greater attention on landscape architecture and public health by participating in coordinated public awareness events across the country.

Mentorship: Information & Trends for Connecting with Your Fellow PractitionersThe Women in Landscape Architecture PPN has heard that many of our members are interested in a mentorship program. In our research on this topic, we’ve come across the following information from the Northern California chapter (NCC), which is instituting a formal program. Their structure is modeled from the American Institute of Architects program and relies on small regional teams that meet bi-monthly, rather than a one-to-one partnership.
