ASLA Receives Certificate from D.C. Mayor

The American Society of Landscape Architects recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from Vincent C. Gray, the mayor of Washington, D.C. The certificate was awarded in recognition of ASLA’s support for the Sustainable DC Plan, which aims to make the District the healthiest, greenest, most livable city in the nation.

From 2011 to 2012, ASLA became deeply involved in the Sustainable DC visioning process, releasing a report connecting sustainability with economic development to turn the District into the most sustainable city in America. Priority areas and suggestions identified in the report include smart use of energy, climate change mitigation, water management, and more.

Though ASLA did not win one of the nine Mayor’s Sustainability Awards presented on July 25, 2013, the Society appreciates that the District of Columbia recognizes the work it does in supporting the Sustainable DC Plan.
