Located at the geographic center of Seattle, the South Lake Union Neighborhood was formerly known as the Cascade neighborhood. Situated between the natural resources north of the city and the Seattle waterfront, this neighborhood slowly changed from a densely forested landscape to a mix of primarily low-density one-story commercial, light industrial, and residential. Today, the neighborhood is experiencing rapid change into a bustling high-density live/work environment. Bounded between downtown, Aurora, Lake Union and I-5, it is well-situated to emerge as a successful mixed-use neighborhood.
This tour will explore a sampling of project types and challenges with the professionals instrumental in their design, planning, and construction. Projects include: Cascade Park; Swale on Yale and Block 10; South Lake Union Park and the Northwest Native Canoe Center; Exchange 4 & 5 - Amazon Campus; and the Mercer Corridor.
All tour participants and presenters are invited to an optional no-host social hour following the tour. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere at the Brave Horse Tavern adjacent to a Walker Macy-designed courtyard.
