The Downtown DC Business Improvement District will give a
2012 Momentum Award to the mini-golf exhibition created by the National
Building Museum last summer. The American Society of Landscape Architects
(ASLA) sponsored a hole in the exhibition. The award will be presented on
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.
According to the Downtown DC Business Improvement District, the
mini-golf exhibition will be recognized under the “Downtown Experience”
category for providing a unique, fun and
entertaining experience encouraging residents and visitors to come to the
Downtown area.
The ASLA entry was called “Take
Back the Streets!” and featured a complete street with bike lanes, bus
lanes, a trolley, and green spaces and trees. It was designed and built by
Virginia Tech landscape architecture students Rebecca May and Luke Van
Belleghem, Student ASLA, at the Washington–Alexandria Architecture Center in
Alexandria, Virginia, with help from Seth Estep and Brian Green.
Other participating teams included OLIN and Landscape Architecture
Bureau.
The Momentum
Awards celebrate the people, programs and projects that make the Downtown
area a remarkable urban experience. This year's Momentum Awards will honor 11 downtown
leaders, doers and most talked about projects in eight categories at this much
anticipated ceremony.
