Northcrest Developments is calling on cross-disciplinary and creative teams from around the world to participate in a transformative design competition for the 2km Runway at YZD in Toronto. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity allows participants to develop a holistic set of design guidelines that will inform how future district planning teams transform an iconic landmark, leaving a legacy in Toronto through innovative public realm and urban design.
The heart of the 370-acre transformation of YZD, The Runway represents an unprecedented city-building opportunity in North America both in scale and ambition. This is your opportunity to help shape the transformation of a historic airstrip into a destination for community, creativity, and connection. Led by a registered landscape architect, your team will consist of multidisciplinary experts who bring bold ideas to life. The appointed team will develop The Runway Concept plan. This set of guidelines will inform the future of The Runway, ensuring public realm cohesion over time, to create a landmark outdoor experience that stands as an international example of placemaking and innovation in adaptively reusing industrial infrastructure.
