Landscape Master Plan
Four Colonies Homes Association
Four Colonies Homes Association is seeking a landscape architecture firm to master plan landscape renovation for our maintained community. Four Colonies is a 100-acre complex of 681 homes located in Lenexa, Kansas, west of Quivira Drive, between 79th and 83rd Streets. We are the Kansas City metropolitan area’s first and largest planned unit development (PUD); built between 1971 and 1984. We have swimming pools, clubhouses, and outdoor recreational facilities.
Of our 100 acres, approximately 50 acres of Four Colonies are in common grounds. Over the past years our lawn areas have suffered from draught and age and are in need of rejuvenation. We have about 1,800 trees, most of which are mature. Our Austrian (80), Scotch (200), and White (50) Pine trees are in decline, and we have Ash (300) trees that are susceptible to the Emerald ash borer. Plans need to be made to ensure that Four Colonies remains a community of beautiful trees. We need to focus on the management of our common grounds and incorporate these efforts into our current and long-range master planning.
Interested firms should send a statement of qualifications containing:
- A brief description of the firm, including its location, qualifications, and history.
- Short descriptions of five recent, relevant projects with client contact information, date, scope, and fee.
- Resumes of the key licensed personnel who would work on the project.
Three copies of the firm’s statement of qualifications should be submitted to Ms. Becky Powell, general manager, 7975 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS, 66215 by December 20, 2013 by 4:00 p.m. Ms. Powell and a committee of homeowners will select two or three firms to interview prior to deciding on one. Selection will be made on the basis of qualifications, but will be subject to successful fee negotiation.
Note that the selected firm will be required to carry and furnish to Four Colonies proof of Contractor’s Insurance including Workmen’s Compensation and Employers Liability Insurance, Comprehensive General Liability Insurance, and Comprehensive Automobile Liability Insurance.
