Career Discovery and Diversity Manager
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) (www.asla.org) seeks a Career Discovery and Diversity Manager. The position manages the Society’s efforts to increase awareness of landscape architecture as a career path among diverse student groups, and advances the Society’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. The top priority for this position is to increase the pool of applicants applying to accredited landscape architecture programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- With guidance from the Director, Education Programs, informs strategic direction for the Society’s career discovery and diversity efforts.
- Represents ASLA and the profession of landscape architecture at national, regional, and chapter events.
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders as necessary to promote the profession to diverse student groups.
- Leads ASLA’s efforts to identify and engage with organizations that reach K-12 students.
- Creates opportunities for member/volunteer engagement with career discovery and diversity programs and develops a network of member volunteers to exchange ideas/best practices and support ASLA career discovery/diversity goals.
- Fosters teamwork across departments (including public relations, membership, professional practice, and LAM) and with the leadership and membership to achieve program goals.
- Plans and co-facilitates the annual ASLA Diversity Summit, including recruitment of participants, work plans to support Summit outcomes, and communications.
- Manages career discovery resources on asla.org and develops new resources as necessary.
- Develops and reviews grant applications for career discovery and diversity initiatives.
- Supports departmental and ASLA-wide planning, performance monitoring, and performance improvement processes and initiatives.
- Supports the ASLA mission and strategic objectives and upholds the ASLA values and culture.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Background/ExperienceEducation: BA degree required; graduate degree a plus.
Skills: Entrepreneurial spirit. Excellent written, visual, and oral presentation skills. Experience with volunteer networks and capacity building. Knowledge of higher education recruitment practices. Understanding of successful diversity and inclusion practices. Experience working or volunteering in a membership organization. Excellent organizational and project management skills and attention to detail. Ability to balance heavy workload with short- and long-term project deadlines, address changing priorities, and work well under pressure. Microsoft Office computer applications; experience with Adobe and Adobe Creative Suite. Must become familiar with ASLA programs and priorities and the varied practice of landscape architecture, as well as issues related to higher education. Knowledge of landscape architecture or a related design discipline a plus.
Experience: Seven to ten years’ relevant experience in education and/or diversity program management.
